After an eventful freshman year and a disastrous summer, fifteen-year-old Will Carter returns to Merrian High none the wiser. The year starts off pretty normally. When his on-again/off-again girlfriend, Abby, is accepted to the New York Drama School, Carter's world is thrown upside-down. She wants him to apply to the school, too. He knows it would be awesome, and he's pretty sure Abby would let him see her naked in New York. But what about his boys? And with his sister headed to college, can his parents survive without him? Plus, the application is really long.
It will take a lot of soul-searching (and in-school suspensions) for Carter to make his decision. In the meantime, there are plenty of classes to be late to, parties to avoid, and cops to run from.

Brent Crawford (www.brent-crawford.com) is the author of the critically-acclaimed Carter Finally Gets It, Carter's Big Break, and Carter's Unfocused, One-Track Mind. Born in Kansas, he moved to Los Angeles and then New York to pursue an acting career. He has worked in theater, film, TV, and commercials and has written numerous plays and screenplays. He lives in Kansas City, Kansas.

Such a funny book

I loved this book. I am years away from my teenage years, but Brent Crawford writes Carter exactly how I used to think in high school and that's why I can't stop reading this series. So real, and so unflinchingly funny that I had a tough time reading around my daughters...they kept making fun of me for my reactions to the book! These Carter books just get more entertaining with each new one.
The title is a bit misleading...one of the main points of the book is how Carter is able to become more focused (during his many detentions), but I know that authors often don't have control over titles, covers, etc.
I love the range of emotions Carter goes through in these books. The balance he has between his football/swimming/fight-club life vs. his drama-geek/Abby life is fully realized in this 3rd installment of the series, and it's a pleasure to see Carter is not ashamed of any part of his life. But he is written as a real 15 year old, with all of the insecurities and problems that come with that age.
Brent Crawford is a very talented writer - he just gets it right with the dialogue and actions of Carter and his friends. And he's super imaginative with the situations he puts them all in - trust me, he doesn't pull any punches either. There are tons of references to sex and many other bodily functions in this book (parents, beware of this for your early teens)...but in story context it always works and is so fun to read. There is also a major theme of loyalty throughout this book, and that rocks. But I want to emphasize the main reason I enjoyed this book - it was just...so...funny!

What a crazy, but lovable bunch of teenagers! "Carter and his friends" had me laughing throughout all three of the books! PTL

I've read the three books on "Carter", authored by Brent Crawford and enjoyed all three very much, (and I'm 76yrs old), but still remember my high school years, although they weren't quite as exciting as Carter's, plus we all seemed to be very poor. Anyway, there are plenty laughs to be had reading Mr. Crawford's three books and I would strongly recommend folks to read them. PT Lovejoy.
